About Its Our Theatre.

it’s our theatre is much more than this website. It is a project for all young people in the East of England. Created by THEATRE IS… it’s our theatre offers the chance for young people to step-up, and step-on to the path towards becoming the cultural leaders and creative entrepreneurs of the future.

it’s our theatre empowers young people to lead and produce their own cultural events, developing and owning their own arts infrastructure. One of the key objectives is to provide an alternative path for young people who are isolated, disadvantaged, at risk, unengaged or uninspired.

Beyond this site we work across the region linking professional Hip Hop practitioners from the world renowned THROWDOWN team to young people around the region. THROWDOWN artists lead the project, providing aspirational role models for the young people who participate. These practitioners deliver skills based workshops and Slam Night talent contests, empowering and developing a new breed of cultural leader and creative entrepreneur.

We work with Hip Hop artists as they work across dance, music, spoken word, sport and visual arts. Hip Hop is dynamic, accessible and as an art form is clearly “owned” by young people. It is intrinsically linked to the notion and practice of entrepreneurship. Hip Hop has a unique quality which allows young people to redefine what theatre is for them, along with the tools to comprehensively articulate the specific cultural challenges that they face.

Piloted successfully in North Norfolk, THEATRE IS… are developing it’s our theatre projects for and with young people in Thurrock and Hertfordshire.
